Brantford Pest Control
Brantford Pest Control gets rid of bed bugs in Brantford homes, apartments and businesses. A technician confirms the infestation, walks you through our bed bug prep sheet and treats with Aprehend, a Health Canada-registered biopesticide made from natural fungal spores. Most homes need only one application. Estimates over the phone are free.
Bed bugs are flat, reddish-brown insects about the size of an apple seed (4–5 mm) that feed on human blood, usually at night while you sleep. Young bed bugs (nymphs) are smaller and almost clear until they feed, and the eggs are about 1 mm long, white and glued into seams and cracks. Health Canada notes that bed bugs aren’t known to spread disease, but the bites itch, can cause skin reactions and cost people a lot of sleep and stress.
Bed bugs have nothing to do with how clean a home is. They hitch rides in suitcases, backpacks, used furniture, moving boxes and clothing, so a house in Holmedale, a student rental near Laurier Brantford and a hotel off the 403 are all at the same risk. Once inside, they hide within a few metres of where people sleep or sit, and a female can lay hundreds of eggs in her lifetime. That’s why a small problem becomes a big one in a few months.
Bites alone can’t confirm bed bugs. Flea, mosquito and spider bites can look similar, and some people don’t react to bed bug bites at all. Look for the physical evidence, or have us inspect.
Start with the bed: mattress seams and tags, box spring corners, the underside of the frame and the screw holes in the headboard. Then check nightstands, sofa and recliner seams, the edges of carpet along baseboards, picture frames, electrical outlets, curtain folds and clutter piled near the bed. In apartments, bed bugs also move through wall voids and along pipes into neighbouring units.
We treat bed bugs with Aprehend®, a biopesticide made by Rockwell Labs. Its active ingredient is the spores of Beauveria bassiana, a fungus found naturally in soil. Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency registered it for indoor bed bug control in 2020 (registration decision RD2020-05).
Here is how it works, according to the manufacturer:
Aprehend doesn’t rely on reaching every egg or crack, and you don’t need to empty dressers or bag everything you own. You do need to leave the spray bands alone, which is why the prep and aftercare steps matter.
Our bed bug prep sheet has the full checklist. In short:
The manufacturer’s homeowner prep sheet has the same steps in more detail.
Store-bought foggers (“bug bombs”) don’t reach bed bugs hiding inside seams, cracks and wall voids, and they can push bugs into other rooms. Many over-the-counter sprays only kill bugs they touch directly, and bed bugs can live for months without feeding, so they wait it out. Throwing out a mattress rarely helps: carrying it through the house scatters bugs, and the new mattress gets infested. Lasting control needs a thorough inspection and a treatment that keeps working after the technician leaves.
In apartment buildings and townhouses, bed bugs move between units through walls, outlets, pipes and hallways. Treating one unit while the neighbours are infested usually means the bugs come back. We work with landlords, property managers and tenants to inspect the units on each side, above and below, schedule treatment and give every tenant the same prep list. Ontario landlords are generally responsible for pest control in rental units, so tenants should report bed bugs to their landlord as soon as they notice them.
Bed bug treatment in Brantford typically costs about $1,000 to $1,400 or more, plus HST, depending on how many bedrooms are treated. Multi-unit buildings cost more, because the units next to, above and below the infested unit usually need treatment too.
| Job | Typical price range (plus HST) |
|---|---|
| Smaller home or apartment | From about $1,000 |
| Larger home with more bedrooms | Up to about $1,400 or more |
| Multi-unit buildings | Quoted after an inspection |
These are typical ranges, not quotes. Estimates over the phone are free, and your technician confirms the price before any work starts. See the pest control cost guide for more.

FAQ
Look for physical evidence: dark spots on mattress seams, shed skins, tiny white eggs or live bugs in the bed frame. Bites alone can’t confirm bed bugs, because flea, mosquito and spider bites can look similar. A Brantford Pest Control technician can inspect and confirm what you have.
The visit usually takes a few hours, depending on the size of the home. Aprehend keeps working afterwards: bed bugs that cross the spray bands die within about 4 to 10 days, and the bands stay active for up to three months. Most homes need only one application, and your technician confirms the plan after the inspection.
Usually not. Most mattresses and box springs can be treated and then protected with bed bug-proof encasements. Throwing out an infested mattress without wrapping it can spread bugs through the house and to neighbours, and a new mattress will get infested if the rest of the room isn’t treated.
Yes, and you should keep sleeping in your own bed afterwards, because that draws bed bugs out across the treated bands. Keep pets out of treated rooms for at least four hours and cover fish tanks and cages. Your technician will tell you when it’s safe to go back into treated rooms.
Aprehend is a biopesticide made from the spores of a natural soil fungus, Beauveria bassiana. Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency registered it for indoor bed bug control. It’s applied in narrow bands where bed bugs walk, and bugs that cross it pick up spores, die within days and spread spores to others.
No. Bed bugs feed on blood, not dirt or food waste. They hitch rides in luggage, clothing and used furniture, so clean homes, hotels, offices and dorms in Brantford can get them too. Clutter does give them more places to hide, which makes treatment harder.
Yes. We treat houses, apartments, rental units and businesses in Brantford. In multi-unit buildings the neighbouring units should be inspected too, because bed bugs travel through walls and hallways. We can coordinate with your landlord or property manager and give every tenant the same prep checklist.

You may see a few live bed bugs for two to three weeks while the spores take effect. That’s normal, so don’t spray other products or wipe the treated bands. If you’re still seeing live bed bugs 30 days after treatment, call us so we can take another look.
Follow our bed bug prep sheet. In short: launder and bag bedding and clothes, declutter, pull furniture away from walls and vacuum the baseboards. Don’t move belongings to other rooms or homes. You don’t need to empty dressers unless the infestation is heavy.
