Brantford Pest Control
Brantford Pest Control humanely removes raccoons, squirrels, skunks and bats from homes and businesses in Brantford and the surrounding area. We find how the animals are getting in, check for babies, remove them in line with Ontario’s wildlife rules and seal the openings so they can’t get back in. Estimates over the phone are free.
Brantford’s river valley, ravines, trails and mature trees make good habitat for wildlife. An attic is warm, dry and safe for raising young, and a deck or shed makes a ready-made den. Most calls come in late winter and spring, when mothers look for a place to give birth, and again in fall, when animals look for winter shelter.
Raccoons move into attics, chimneys, garages, sheds and the space under decks, especially from March to June, when mothers look for a safe place to raise kits. They tear shingles, roof vents and soffits, flatten insulation and leave latrines of droppings that can carry raccoon roundworm. We find every entry point, check for kits, remove the raccoons humanely in line with Ontario’s rules, then seal the openings. A raccoon in a chimney is handled the same way, finishing with the chimney opening sealed.
Grey, black and red squirrels, and flying squirrels, get into attics, walls and soffits through gaps at the roof line. They chew constantly: fascia, vents, insulation and electrical wiring, which can be a fire risk. Squirrels usually have litters in early spring and again in late summer. Scratching in the early morning and evening usually means grey or red squirrels, while noise at night can mean flying squirrels. We check for young, remove the squirrels humanely and seal the entry points.
Skunks den under decks, porches, sheds and concrete steps, and dig up lawns looking for grubs. Young are usually born in May and June. We confirm the den, check for young and remove skunks humanely in line with Ontario’s rules. Afterwards, we’ll show you where to screen the base of the deck or shed with mesh buried in an L-shape so another skunk can’t move in.
Big brown bats and little brown bats roost in attics, walls and behind siding, and they need a gap only about 1 cm wide to get in. Several Ontario bat species, including the little brown myotis, are endangered and protected, and the federal government has rules for these bats in buildings. Bats can’t be trapped, killed or relocated. They are removed by exclusion: one-way exits on the main entry points, as Ontario’s guide describes, then sealing once the bats are out. Timing rules are below.
Mice and rats often use the same gaps as larger wildlife; see mice and rat removal. Not sure what animal you have? Describe the sounds, the damage and the time of day when you call, and we’ll help identify it.
Raccoon droppings can carry raccoon roundworm, and bats and skunks can carry rabies in Ontario. Wildlife also brings fleas, ticks and mites into the home. Never handle wild animals or their droppings without protection. If anyone is bitten or scratched, or has direct contact with a bat, contact a doctor and Grand Erie Public Health right away.
| Job | Typical price range (plus HST) |
|---|---|
| Raccoon or squirrel exclusion | About $700 to $1,500 |
| Live trapping, where it suits the job | From about $350 |

Smaller jobs can cost less and complex jobs more, depending on the animal, the number of entry points, whether babies are present and roof access. These are typical ranges, not quotes. Estimates over the phone are free, and you get the price before work starts. See our pest control cost guide.

FAQ
We humanely remove raccoons, squirrels, skunks and bats from homes and businesses in Brantford and the surrounding area, and treat mice and rats that use the same gaps. If you’re not sure what animal you have, describe the sounds, damage and timing when you call and we’ll help identify it.
Ontario’s rules require live-captured wildlife to be released within 1 kilometre of where it was caught, no later than one day after capture, so moving it across Brantford isn’t allowed. Trapping a mother can also leave babies behind in your attic. Bats can’t be trapped at all. Professional removal plus sealing avoids these problems.
Ontario’s bat exclusion guide allows exclusion from April to early May and from late August to November. From mid-May to mid-August, mothers are raising flightless pups, and exclusion would trap them inside. Bats that spend the winter in a building shouldn’t be evicted. We’ll tell you the right timing for your home.
Raccoons usually have young from March to June, skunks in May and June, squirrels in early spring and again in late summer, and bats have flightless pups from mid-May to mid-August. During these months we always check for babies before sealing an opening, so no young are trapped inside.
Close the door to the room the animal is in, keep children and pets away, and open an outside door or window in that room if it’s safe so the animal can leave. Don’t try to catch it. Then leave us a message, and we’ll call you back during office hours to arrange removal.
Raccoon and squirrel exclusion typically costs about $700 to $1,500, plus HST, and live trapping starts at about $350 where it suits the job. Skunk, bat and other wildlife jobs depend on the animal and the building, so an inspection is required for an exact quote. Phone estimates are free.
