Brantford Pest Control
Brantford Pest Control treats flea infestations in Brantford homes. We apply an adult insecticide and an insect growth regulator to carpets, floors, furniture and pet areas, so eggs and larvae can’t develop into new fleas. You get a prep and vacuuming plan, your vet treats your pets at the same time, and the treatment carries a 90-day warranty. Estimates over the phone are free.
The fleas you see on your pet are only a small part of the problem. Most of a flea population lives in your home as eggs, larvae and pupae, deep in carpets, rugs, furniture, pet bedding and the cracks between floorboards. A female flea lays up to 50 eggs a day. The eggs fall off your pet around the house, hatch into larvae that hide from light, then spin cocoons where they can wait for weeks until vibration, warmth or carbon dioxide tells them a host is near.
That’s why treating only the pet, or only vacuuming, rarely works. The life cycle has to be broken in the home and on the animal at the same time.
Most flea problems in Brantford start with a dog or cat that picks up fleas outdoors, at a kennel or from another animal. Fleas can also come from wildlife: raccoons, squirrels, skunks and mice living in an attic, crawl space or under a deck can bring fleas that move indoors, even into homes without pets. Moving into a home where the previous owners had pets is another common cause. If wildlife is the source, removing the animals matters as much as treating the fleas. See wildlife control.
Flea bites can look like bed bug or mosquito bites. Fleas usually bite ankles and legs; bed bugs bite skin exposed during sleep.
Flea bites itch and can cause allergic skin reactions in people and pets. Pets with heavy infestations can develop flea allergy dermatitis and, in young or small animals, anemia. Fleas can also carry tapeworm to pets that swallow them while grooming. Talk to your veterinarian about your pet’s health and the right flea product.
It’s normal to see some fleas for about two weeks after treatment. Pupae inside cocoons aren’t affected until they hatch, and daily vacuuming encourages them to hatch so they die on treated surfaces. Keep people and pets off treated areas until they dry, usually a few hours, and wait as long as your technician recommends before washing treated carpets.
Flea treatment for a Brantford home typically costs about $500, plus HST, and includes a 90-day warranty. Treating your pets is arranged separately with your vet.

FAQ
Watch for pets scratching more than usual, small dark insects jumping on pets or carpets, itchy bites around ankles and lower legs, and flea dirt: tiny black specks on pet bedding that turn reddish when wet. If you’re not sure, describe the signs when you call and we’ll help you confirm.
Most homes are flea-free within three to four weeks of treatment, as long as pets are treated at the same time and you vacuum daily. Some fleas may hatch from protected cocoons for about two weeks after treatment. If fleas continue after that, call us: flea treatment carries a 90-day warranty.
Yes. Home treatment and pet treatment must happen together, or fleas on your pets will restart the infestation. Ask your veterinarian for a suitable flea product for each animal. We treat your home only and don’t apply products to pets, so book your vet visit for the same week.
Yes. Wildlife such as raccoons, squirrels, skunks and mice living in your attic, crawl space or under a deck can bring fleas that move indoors. Moving into a home where previous owners had pets can also leave flea pupae behind. Finding and removing the source is part of the treatment.
We use Health Canada-registered products, including an insect growth regulator, applied to carpets, floors and furniture. People and pets stay off treated areas until they dry, usually a few hours. Remove fish tanks or cover them, and put away pet bowls and toys before the appointment.
That’s normal for about two weeks. Flea pupae inside cocoons are protected until they hatch, then they contact the treated surfaces and die. Vacuum every day, since vibration triggers hatching, and keep your pets on their vet-recommended product. If fleas continue after two to three weeks, call us.
Yes. Vacuum thoroughly before treatment, including under furniture and along baseboards, then vacuum daily for about two weeks afterwards. Empty the vacuum or seal the bag and put it in an outdoor bin each time. Vacuuming removes eggs and larvae and makes pupae hatch.
